Education Improved education is seen as the long term key to improving the health and economic status of the people of Rajasthan. Frequently many fewer girls attend schools than boys as the girls are needed to help their mothers fetch water, tend the animals and look after the babies. Wells for India has provided a number of primary schools where the need is greatest. Emphasis is placed on encouraging a higher proportion of girls to attend these schools and persuading the government to take over the running of the schools once established. |

Bhalu School In 1998 Bhalu villagers set up their own school in a straw hut for about 12 children. In 2000 this primary school was built in memory of a Wells for India supporter for about 60 children. Today the school has around 120 pupils and the government has taken over its day to day running. |
|
School Latrines Provision of school latrines and education in hygiene and care of water can lead to an increase in school attendance, particularly by girls. |

School Rain Water Harvesting Wells for India is supporting a number of rain water harvesting systems at schools. |

Chakoo School Chakoo is a remote village in the Rajasthan desert where the level of literacy is practically zero. In view of the number of children being deprived of education our Wells for India supported a new school. A villager donated some land and now 60 children attend. Considerable change has been brought about in the children after they have started regularly attending school. |
