Agriculture Many villagers rely on subsistence farming for survival. Rain water harvesting techniques can dramatically change the range and quantity of crops that can be grown. Improved seed provision and training is supported and where water supplies are sufficient, crop irrigation systems implemented. Following the monsoon rains summer (Karif) crops such as millet, pulses, lentils, vegetables and animal fodder ate planted. If there is rain in the winter or irrigation is available then crops such as wheat and mustard are grown. |

Development of River Catchments In the Aravali Hills Wells for India has a number of water harvesting programmes working progressively down major seasonal river catchments. These are providing sufficient water for a much wider range of crops to be grown |
|
Loose Stone Check Dam This Water Harvesting structure has held back the monsoon rains, increasing the moisture content of the land and dramatically improving this winter fodder crop. |

Greening of the Desert Water Harvesting can transform previously barren areas of land into significant crop producing areas. |
