The WORK project initiated this year aims to bring about an overall development in the lives of the rural women of Thar by organizing them into Self Help Groups (SHG’s) and then involving them in various activities. Under this project, twenty SHGs have been formed in four project villages, namely Surpura, Saranpura, Kalarba and Sodadhara, involving 200 women. All the groups are saving Rs. 250 per month. The total savings in these groups is Rs. 32, 000. Apart from this, GRAVIS also carried out eight basic trainings on the concept of SHGs, record maintenance, bank links and on a vast array of subjects. Trainings have also been organized on Barmer embroidery, candle making, detergent and soap making with the aim of securing economic empowerment of women and facilitating market links for sale of products. In addition, some of the women have been taken on an exposure visit to Barmer where SHG members are running small scale handicraft industries. To generate awareness about health, education and rights amongst women, information on various government schemes has been shared with SHG members. |
