Wells for India is a not-for-profit organisation specialising in sustainable water. Since 1987, we have supported work in some of the poorest rural communities in the drylands of India. Here, water is the key to enabling people to improve their lives, their life-chances, and their environment.

Over the years, we have extended our expertise beyond the provision of wells, to rainwater harvesting, natural resource management, and sanitation. We encourage the revival of traditional water management wisdom combined with up-to-date scientific and technological innovation. We have learned that for sustainable change to take place, water resources need to be accessible, reliable, of sufficient quality, used efficiently, distributed equitably, and managed and maintained at community level.

We achieve our impact by providing project-based grant funding and technical support to local partner organisations. Our partners are Indian voluntary organisations – each with its own distinct identity, but all of them close to the communities they work with, and sharing our commitment to grassroots development, without discrimination on the basis of sex, caste or religion. We aim to develop effective methods and approaches that can be replicated and shared regionally, nationally and internationally.
